Today it is World Humanitarian Day as it is every year on August 19. The day has been named WHD since 2008 when the US General Assembly decided to designate this day as World Humanitarian Day. The day was designated to coincide with the anniversary of the 2003 bombing of the United Nations headquarters in Baghdad, Iraq.
