Tents4Trees are now planting mangroves in Myanmar

Tents4Trees Dancover Myanmar

Dancover and the concept Tents4Trees have now planted over 20.000 trees in Zambia. Now they are starting a new important climate project. This time Dancover and Tent4trees are planting mangrove trees in the Yangon coastal regions of Myanmar. The Tents4Trees concept will plant a tree for every tent sold. Dancover is sure that it will mean many new mangroves in Myanmar.

Tents4Trees have chosen Myanmar in cooperation with Global Climate Institute

Dancover has been cooperation with Global Climate Institute both in Zambia and now in Myanmar. The reason that we chose Myanmar is that it is the poorest country in ASEAN (Association of South-East Asian Nations), severely threatened by global warming. Myanmar has a population of 55 million people – app. 25 % or more live below the poverty line. Myanmar has already lost over 1 million ha mangrove forest since 1980 and is rapidly losing most of its mangrove forests, with only 16% left. Myanmar is therefore very vulnerable to climate change. Low-lying paddy fields have already been abandoned due to sea-level rise with a salt intrusion. Over 60% of the country’s rice production comes from this region.

Tents4Trees are planting mangroves also called the ‘Miracle tree’

Mangroves can protect shorelines from erosion, as well as protecting lives and properties from extreme weather. These coastal forests serve as nurseries for local fish, underpinning livelihoods and nutrition for communities. Mangroves are also the most incredible carbon store – they store up to four times as much carbon as other tropical forests, including rainforests! The area where Tents4Trees are planting the mangroves is dense grassland and as mangrove seeds and propagules cannot naturally regenerate since the seeds cannot reach the soil. That is why we need to support the planting process actively. You can read more about the project here:

Get a personal certificate when you buy a tent from Dancover

When you buy one or more tents from Dancover, you receive a personal certificate showing information about the specific tree and the project in general. Here you can see how you can help us make a difference. Mangroves have many qualities – one of them is storing carbon – they store up to four times as much carbon as other tropical forests, including rainforests. Two mangrove trees sequester up to 1 ton of CO2.  Here you can see the goals of our Tents4Trees Myanmar project:

• Fight against climate change and global warming

• Restore mangrove forests

• Soil protection

• Secure food production and security

• Build livelihood resilience
