Camping tents and hydrostatic head
You can get camping tents in many different sizes and with different features. The tents also differ when it comes to the degree of resistance to water. You can find out how waterproof your camping tent is by looking at the term called the hydrostatic head. The hydrostatic head is the amount of water in millimetres that 1 square centimetre of the canvas can resist before the water breaks through. The higher this figure is the more water the canvas can resist. If the hydrostatic head is above 1.500 mm, a canvas is considered waterproof but there is a huge difference between having direct contact to the material or not. To make sure your new camping tent is waterproof the tent must consist of an inner cabin and a flysheet that must be kept apart. If the flysheets hydrostatic head is 3.000 mm or above it will resist most rain. When it comes to the groundsheet in a camping tent, the hydrostatic head should be around 10.000 mm because the pressure on the material is so much higher compared to the flysheet.

Rain and condensation is not the same thing!
Camping tents can get a bit moist on the inside, but it will often be condensation. Condensation is like mist on a windowpane and is difficult to avoid completely. Condensation will be stronger when food is being prepared inside the camping tent, when several people are inside the tent for a longer period, i.e. at night or if you hang clothes to dry inside the tent. The same goes if you have mounted the camping tent on moist ground or if you just get inside from a hike with a higher pulse, breathing heavier than normally. Condensation can be limited through regular ventilation and airing of the tent.
