World Humanitarian Day 2016 – One Humanity

Refugee tent from Dancover

Today it is World Humanitarian Day as it is every year on August 19. The day has been named WHD since 2008 when the US General Assembly decided to designate this day as World Humanitarian Day. The day was designated to coincide with the anniversary of the 2003 bombing of the United Nations headquarters in Baghdad, Iraq.

Calling for global solidarity

World Humanitarian Day recognizes the aid workers who risk their lives in humanitarian service and mobilizes people to advocate for humanitarian action. This World Humanitarian Day, the UN and its partners are calling for global solidarity with the more than 130 million people around the world who need humanitarian assistance to survive. Under the theme of ‘One Humanity’, World Humanitarian Day will highlight how the world came together in Istanbul for the World Humanitarian Summit earlier this year and made commitments to support people affected by the crisis and ensure that aid workers can safely and more effectively deliver to those in need.

Dancover as aid equipment supplier

At Dancover, we recognize the important work that the many aid workers do around the world and as an aid equipment supplier, we follow the conflicts in the world closely. In our small way, we try to supply aid organisations with products that will make a difference in refugee camps and other places where there is a need for temporary accommodation or storage of supplies and materials. Dancover has previously delivered materials for various aid organisations and we have just launched a new brand Tents4Life that specifies in relief equipment. The first item in the series is a specially designed refugee tent with room for 10 people. The strong and durable refugee tent is to be used by charity and aid organisations and private benefactors as a vital part of the relief work around the world. Dancover also has many other products to be used by the humanitarian organisations who work relentlessly to bring assistance and relief to the millions of people in need of humanitarian help to survive.

Humanitarian needs worldwide

World humanitarian Day seeks to draw attention to humanitarian needs worldwide and the importance of international cooperation in meeting these needs. Every year, disasters cause immense suffering for millions of people – usually the world’s poorest, most marginalized and vulnerable individuals. Responding to emergencies is only one aspect of humanitarian work. Humanitarian workers also support communities to rebuild their lives after disasters, to become more resilient to future crises, to advocate for their voices to be heard, and to build lasting and sustainable peace in areas of conflict.
